Quick Guides

My Planner Basics

Three rules that prevent the most common mistakes.
Good to know
πŸ’°Money In / Money Out

Use Income for money received and Expense for money spent. Choose the account where the money actually moved.

πŸ”Transfers are not expenses

Moving money between your own accounts should use Transfer so income and spending reports stay accurate.

🧭Budget vs actual

Your budget is the plan. Transactions are the actual spending. My Planner compares both automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common first-time questions.
FAQ
Where should I start?

Start with Accounts, enter or edit your opening balances, record your first transaction, then set a monthly budget. After that, add tasks and enable reminders.

What is the difference between Expense and Transfer?

Expense is money you spent. Transfer only moves money between accounts you own, so it should not increase your spending total.

Why does my account balance change?

Current balance is calculated from the opening balance plus all Income, Expense and Transfer transactions linked to that account.

How does the monthly budget work?

Set a budget amount for each expense category. My Planner compares it with transactions in the selected month and shows remaining budget and usage percentage.

How do reminders work?

Enable browser notifications, choose your reminder preferences, then save and sync reminders. Scheduled reminders can open My Planner when clicked.

Can I install My Planner like an app?

Yes. Use the Install button when supported by your browser. Once installed, My Planner runs as a PWA from your device.

Why can only one device edit My Planner at a time?

To protect your financial and planner data from two devices overwriting each other, My Planner allows one active editing device per account. You can still install the app on your phone, laptop or tablet, but only one device is active for editing at a time.

How do I switch from my phone to my laptop?

Open My Planner on the laptop and choose Switch to This Device. The laptop becomes the active device and loads the latest cloud copy first. The phone will automatically pause editing until you switch back.

Will switching devices delete my data?

No. My Planner keeps the cloud copy as the source of truth and stores a local recovery backup before a device switch. The new active device loads the latest cloud copy before editing is enabled.

What does Use Cloud Copy (Restore Cloud) do?

Use Cloud Copy replaces the data on this device with the current copy stored in My Planner Cloud. It does not delete the cloud copy. Before replacing local data, My Planner keeps a local recovery snapshot on this device. Use this option when you have confirmed that the cloud copy is the correct and latest version.

When should I use Use This Device instead of Use Cloud Copy?

Choose Use This Device only when the data on the current device is the correct or newest copy and you intentionally want it to become the cloud copy. Choose Use Cloud Copy when the cloud already contains the correct data and this device should match it. If this device has newer unsynced changes, do not choose Use Cloud Copy until you are sure those changes are no longer needed.

Can I choose Use Cloud Copy on both my phone and laptop?

Yes, but only after you have verified that the current cloud copy is correct. Both devices will then match the same cloud data, while only the active device can edit. If you are unsure which copy is correct, first use the device with the correct data, make it active, choose Use This Device and wait for Cloud synced. Then choose Use Cloud Copy on the other device.

How do I get the latest My Planner update after installing the app?

My Planner checks for a new PWA version when the app opens, returns to the foreground, and periodically while it remains open. When an update is ready, you will see Update Available. Save any open form, then choose Restart & Update. Signing out and signing in again does not update the installed app by itself.
